The Deck Department is responsible for the ship’s maintenance and navigation duties. The Captain heads the Deck Department. In addition, he or she is the ship’s Master and all department heads answer to him/her.
Other positions within this department require employees to have knowledge of ship radios, Morse code, and maintenance. The starting position in this department is called ordinary Seaman. It is possible to be promoted in the Deck Department as skills are learned.
