The Medical Department can be very hectic on large cruise ships which carry 3,000 to 5,000 people including passengers and crew.
A cruise ship’s mini-hospital may have several beds, intensive care unit, operating theatre, X-ray and examination rooms. The number of medical staff employed and the facilities vary from ship to ship. Ships are staffed with licensed health professionals from all over the world. All cruise ships employ at least one medical doctor and several nurses. Some of the larger ships even employ an additional doctor.
